PLACES TO VISIT IN BATH.
Top of my list to visit are the Roman Baths because it takes you back 2000 years and there is a good audioguide commentary to shed light on what you are looking at. You are looking at a different land. In July and August visit the Baths by torchlight for atmosphere.
Visit Thermae Bath Spa sometime during your stay to ‘marinate’ in Grimshaw’s new stone-and-glass building in the same thermal water that pours out of springs at 120degF as it did in Roman times. At sunset the view over the city from the open-air Rooftop Pool is quite something.
Visit the Royal Crescent and Circus for the spaciousness and elegance of the architecture –very different to Beau Street which would have been one of the medieval streets within the city walls.
If you are interested in Jane Austen, there is the Jane Austen Centre and the Assembly Rooms – where Jane Austen danced!
If rugby is your thing, try one of Bath Rugby’s home game at the Rec. Or paint-balling at Chelwood. Or karting or skid control training at Castle Combe Circuit. Or less active sitting by the Abbey at Minerva Chocolate watching people walk by.
And for festivals and markets and events, google www.bathmusicfest.com. |
